TELEHEALTH SERVICES FOR REMOTE & RURAL CLIENTS
Rural people experiencing mental health issues may find it difficult to access psychological services without travelling a significant distance. To tackle this, Telehealth services (via Zoom) are available for rural and remote clients. You can access these services as a private client or under Medicare. Medicare rebates are available for psychological services delivered via telehealth (videoconference) to eligible people in rural and remote Australia.
To be eligible you must have a referral from your GP or psychiatrist; live in an eligible rural, remote or very remote location; be located at least 15 kilometres by road from the mental health professional and not be a patient of an emergency department or admitted to hospital at the time of the service.
For clients accessing the Telehealth service under Medicare, one of the first four sessions is required to be delivered through a face-to-face consultation to facilitate a personal connection with the psychologist and a further two sessions out of the ten available sessions are also to be face-to-face.
