QLD Alcohol and Drug Information Service

The Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS) is a Queensland state-wide service. ADIS provides a free anonymous 24 hour/7 day telephone  counselling, information and referral service for anyone with concerns about their own or someone else’s use of alcohol or other drugs. Phone 1800 177 833  (anonymous;  available 24 / 7).

Eating Disorders & Body Image

The Butterfly Foundation (thebutterflyfoundation.org.au/)

Butterfly provides support for Australians who suffer from eating disorders and negative body image issues and their carers. Phone 1800 33 4673.

Eating Disorders Australia (www.eda.org.au)

The Eating Disorders Association Inc (Qld)is a community based not-for-profit organisation. We provide eating disorder information and referral, individual and family counselling, group support, peer support, education and skills based training to carers of those living with an eating disorder.

Medicare rebates are available for up to ten individual and ten group allied mental health services per calendar year to patients with an assessed mental disorder who are referred by:

  • A GP managing the patient under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or

Post and Antenatal Depression Association Inc. (PANDA) (www.panda.org.au)

PANDA’s National Perinatal Depression Helpline, funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments, provides vital support, information, referral and counselling to thousands of Australian parents and their families.  Callers do not need to have a diagnosis of antenatal or postnatal depression to make contact with the Helpline, PANDA is keen to support any new parent struggling during pregnancy or after the birth of their baby, as well as their partner, family and friends. PFLAG is an international peer support group that has been operating in Australia for over 30 years. As parents with sons and daughters who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI) we believe, to enable them to have truly fulfilling lives, it is important that they are able to live their lives with honesty and integrity without fear that if they disclose their sexual orientation, they will suffer discrimination, ostracism or abuse. Dedicated to providing the best available evidence and resources to guide activities aimed at reducing the rate at which people take their lives in Australia, the LIFE in Mind website is designed for people across the community who are involved in suicide and self-harm prevention activities.

Mindframe Media (www.mindframe-media.info)

The Australian Government’s Mindframe National Media Initiative (Mindframe) aims to encourage responsible, accurate and sensitive representation of mental illness and suicide in the Australian mass media. The initiative involves building a collaborative relationship with the media and other sectors that influence the media (such as key sources for news stories). Funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Health under the National Suicide Prevention Program, the Mindframe Education and Training program is an initiative of Everymind. Program activities include national leadership, resource development and national dissemination, and ongoing contribution to the evidence base in this area.

The Suicide Call Back Service is a 24 hour, nationwide service that provides free telephone, video and online counselling. You can call us anywhere and anytime on 1300 659 467.  Our professionally trained counsellors have specialist skills in working with suicide-related issues and they can help you to work through the pain and distress you may be feeling.
